What the package shows

What it is used for

Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic used against susceptible bacterial infections. Depending on the child's diagnosis, it can be prescribed for infections such as:

• Ear infections
• Throat/tonsil infections
• Sinus infections
• Certain chest/respiratory bacterial infections
• Urinary-tract infections
• Some skin infections

It does not work against viruses, such as most ordinary colds and influenza.

Accpod-50 vs Accpod-100

This is particularly important because you have now shown both:

For example, 5 mL of Accpod-50 contains the same amount of cefpodoxime as 2.5 mL of Accpod-100. This does not mean the medicines can automatically be substituted without confirming the prescribed dose.

How the dry syrup is prepared

The bottle initially contains powder. Water needs to be added to make the oral suspension.

Do not simply add an arbitrary amount of water. Follow the fill mark/instructions supplied with this particular bottle. After adding the appropriate water:

1. Close the bottle.
2. Shake vigorously.
3. Allow foam/bubbles to settle.
4. Check the level and add water if the instructions require it.
5. Shake again thoroughly.
6. Shake well before every dose.
7. Measure the dose with an oral syringe or the supplied measuring device rather than a household teaspoon.

Side effects

Possible effects include:

• Diarrhea or loose stools
• Nausea/vomiting
• Abdominal discomfort
• Rash

Urgent medical attention is needed for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face/lips/tongue, severe allergic rash, or severe/persistent diarrhea.

One important point

Since you've shown Accpod-CV, Accpod-100, and now Accpod-50, these should not be treated as interchangeable bottles:

• Accpod-CV: cefpodoxime + clavulanate
• Accpod-100: cefpodoxime 100 mg/5 mL
• Accpod-50: cefpodoxime 50 mg/5 mL
