UDN-150 contains ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), also called ursodiol. It is a bile acid used to treat certain liver and gallbladder conditions.

1. What is UDN-150 used for?

• Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC): Helps improve bile flow and reduce liver damage associated with this chronic bile duct disease.

• Certain cholesterol gallstones: May gradually dissolve small, non-calcified cholesterol gallstones in patients with a functioning gallbladder.

• Other cholestatic liver disorders: Sometimes prescribed by specialists for conditions in which bile flow is impaired, depending on the diagnosis.

It is not a general treatment for every type of fatty liver, jaundice or gallstone.

2. How does it work?

UDCA changes the composition of bile, reduces the amount of cholesterol secreted into it and helps protect liver cells from the harmful effects of retained bile acids. For suitable cholesterol gallstones, it gradually reduces the cholesterol content of bile, allowing stones to dissolve over several months.

3. Dosage and administration

The correct dose depends on body weight, diagnosis and response to treatment. For example, the usual adult dose for PBC is approximately 13–15 mg/kg/day, divided according to the prescribed regimen.

Take UDN-150 exactly as directed by your doctor. It can generally be taken with food. Do not increase the number of tablets or discontinue treatment without medical advice.

4. Possible side effects

Common side effects include diarrhea, loose stools, nausea and abdominal discomfort. Less commonly, patients may experience vomiting, rash or itching.

Seek medical attention if you develop severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, worsening jaundice or signs of an allergic reaction.

5. Precautions

UDN-150 may not be suitable for people with obstructed bile ducts, acute gallbladder inflammation, certain types of calcified gallstones or a poorly functioning gallbladder.

Tell your doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver disease and all other medicines you take. Cholestyramine and some aluminium-containing antacids can interfere with UDCA absorption and may require separated dosing.

Doctors may monitor liver function tests during treatment. When treating gallstones, periodic ultrasound examinations help assess whether the medicine is working.

7. Storage and packaging

According to the packaging in your image, UDN-150 should be stored protected from moisture at a temperature not exceeding 30°C and kept out of children's reach. It is a Schedule H prescription medicine in India.
