Itraconazole treats certain infections caused by fungi and yeasts. Depending on the diagnosis, it may be prescribed for:
Ringworm: Fungal infections affecting the skin.
Athlete's foot: Fungal infections between the toes or on the feet.
Jock itch: Fungal infections of the groin.
Nail infections: Fungal infections of the fingernails or toenails.
Pityriasis versicolor: A yeast infection that causes discoloured skin patches.
Certain deeper fungal infections: Including some infections affecting the lungs or other organs.
Itraconazole blocks the production of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. Without sufficient ergosterol, fungal cells cannot maintain their membranes properly, which inhibits their growth.
Conventional itraconazole capsules are generally taken immediately after a full meal and swallowed whole.
The correct dose and treatment duration depend on the infection, its severity, your medical history and other medicines you take. Do not determine your dose from the package strength alone.
Itraconazole capsules and oral solution are not interchangeable because their absorption differs.

Liver conditions: It can cause serious liver injury. Liver function monitoring may be necessary.
Drug interactions: It interacts with many medications, including certain cholesterol-lowering medicines, heart medicines and sedatives.
Pregnancy: Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy.
Stomach-acid medicines: Antacids and acid-reducing medications can affect the absorption of conventional itraconazole capsules.
The photograph shows a white rectangular medicine carton with black typography and a red-orange fungal-themed graphic. The front reads "Itraconazole Capsules IP", "ITRAFOTT-100" and "10×10 Capsules". A silver blister strip with ten capsule cavities is positioned in front of the carton.
The manufacturer, batch number, expiry date, maximum retail price and complete composition are not legible in the photograph.
Important: ITRAFOTT-100 should only be used under medical supervision. It is not suitable for every fungal infection, and the dose and treatment duration vary considerably.
