Eron Ear Drops shown in the image are a combination ear preparation containing four active ingredients. Here is what each component does and why it is included:
Type: Aminoglycoside antibiotic
Equivalent to: Gentamicin
Gentamicin is active against several bacteria that can cause external-ear infections.
It works by interfering with bacterial protein production, ultimately causing bacterial death.
It is mainly useful for bacterial otitis externa and other susceptible bacterial infections of the external ear.
Important: Gentamicin-containing ear drops can potentially cause ototoxicity (damage to hearing/balance), particularly if the eardrum is perforated. They should therefore be used only when appropriate and preferably under medical advice.
Type: Antifungal
Clotrimazole treats fungal infections of the ear.
It interferes with the fungal cell membrane by inhibiting the production of ergosterol.
It is commonly used against fungi such as Candida and Aspergillus, which can cause otomycosis.
So, this component addresses the fungal component rather than bacteria.
Type: Local anaesthetic
Lignocaine (lidocaine) temporarily numbs the area.
It reduces the sensation of ear pain, burning and discomfort.
It does not treat the underlying infection; it provides symptomatic relief.
The concentration shown is 20 mg/mL = 2% w/v.
Type: Corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory)
Beclomethasone reduces inflammation, swelling, redness and itching.
This can make an inflamed ear canal more comfortable.
Like lignocaine, it doesn't directly kill bacteria or fungi; it controls the inflammatory response.
The concentration is 0.5 mg/mL = 0.05% w/v.
Thus, this is a broad combination preparation intended to address bacterial/fungal infection plus pain and inflammation in the external ear.
Because this preparation contains gentamicin + a corticosteroid, it shouldn't automatically be used for every case of earache or ear discharge. In particular, a perforated eardrum, ear tubes, significant hearing loss, or an uncertain diagnosis changes whether these drops are appropriate. Some ear infections are viral, fungal, or located behind the eardrum and require different treatment.
If you tell me what symptoms you have (pain, itching, discharge, blocked ear, smell, duration, etc.), I can explain whether the type of medicine in this bottle would generally fit that situation and what precautions matter.
