What xylometazoline does

Xylometazoline is a topical nasal decongestant. It acts mainly on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the blood vessels of the nasal lining. This causes the swollen nasal blood vessels to constrict, reducing swelling and opening the nasal passages.

It can provide relatively rapid relief from a blocked/stuffy nose associated with:

• Common cold

• Allergic rhinitis

• Sinus congestion

• Nasal inflammation

Important composition distinction

The medicine is not simply “saline.” Xylometazoline is the pharmacologically active decongestant. The formulation will also contain inactive ingredients/excipients, but these cannot be reliably determined from the front of this photograph.
