Ondansetron is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist used to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting. It is commonly used around surgery and with treatments such as chemotherapy. DailyMed

What it does

Unlike the other injections you've shown, this is not an antibiotic.

It is an antiemetic—its purpose is to reduce nausea and vomiting by blocking serotonin (5-HT3) receptors involved in the vomiting reflex.

So, in a treatment regimen containing antibiotics, ondansetron may be included to control nausea/vomiting associated with the illness or treatment.

Strength — important point

The photograph clearly shows “10 × 2 mL Amp.”, but the mg strength per 2 mL is not clearly readable on the outer box.

Many ondansetron injection products are 4 mg/2 mL (2 mg/mL), but do not assume that this particular ACCTRON ampoule is 4 mg/2 mL without reading the ampoule label. Official ondansetron injection products are available at 4 mg/2 mL. DailyMed

How it is given

Ondansetron injection can be administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) depending on the indication and formulation. The appropriate dose and administration speed depend on the situation. DailyMed

It should be administered by a healthcare professional rather than injected at home.

Important precautions

One of the significant considerations with ondansetron is QT prolongation, meaning it can affect the heart's electrical rhythm. This is particularly relevant in people with congenital long-QT syndrome or certain electrolyte abnormalities and when combined with other medicines that prolong the QT interval. DailyMed

Other possible effects include:

  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Injection-site discomfort
  • Rare allergic reactions
  • Rarely, significant heart-rhythm abnormalities

Ondansetron can also rarely contribute to serotonin syndrome, particularly when combined with other serotonergic medicines. DailyMed

Looking at all four medicines you've shown

You have now shown:

  1. Cefcum-S 375 → ceftriaxone + sulbactam → antibiotic
  2. AMCA-500 → amikacin 500 mg/2 mL → antibiotic
  3. ACZID-250 → ceftazidime 250 mg → antibiotic
  4. ACCTRON → ondansetron → anti-nausea medicine

So ACCTRON serves a different purpose from the three antibiotics.

If these four were prescribed for the same patient, I can next explain the overall treatment combination—what each injection is doing, why multiple antibiotics might be used, the major kidney-related concerns, and which blood tests are typically important to monitor.
