About ACCPOD-100 DRY SYP

Accpod-100 Dry Syrup

What is visible on the package

  • Brand: Accpod-100
  • Generic/active medicine: Cefpodoxime
  • Form: Oral suspension, dry syrup
  • Pack: 30 mL after preparation
  • Printed powder quantity: 12 g/30 mL
  • Use: For paediatric use only
  • Type: Prescription (Rx) antibiotic
  • The product information available for Accpod-100 identifies the active ingredient as cefpodoxime 100 mg. Apollo Pharmacy

The “12 g/30 mL” on the top is the quantity of dry powder/formulation, not 12 g of cefpodoxime. The “100” in Accpod-100 refers to the cefpodoxime strength. Apollo Pharmacy

What cefpodoxime does

Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills susceptible bacteria by interfering with formation of the bacterial cell wall.

It can be prescribed for certain bacterial infections, including some:

  • ear infections
  • throat/tonsil infections
  • sinus infections
  • respiratory infections
  • urinary-tract infections
  • skin/soft-tissue infections

It does not treat ordinary viral colds or influenza. Apollo Pharmacy

How it is given

Because this is a dry syrup, water is added before administration. The manufacturer/pharmacy instructions indicate adding the supplied water up to the mark on the bottle, then shaking thoroughly. The bottle should be shaken before each dose and the dose measured with an appropriate measuring device. Apollo Pharmacy

It is generally recommended to give cefpodoxime with food or as directed by the doctor. Apollo Pharmacy

Pediatric dose — important

The dose is weight- and infection-dependent, so the amount in mL should not be guessed.

For example, official cefpodoxime prescribing information gives, for children 2 months–12 years, a commonly used dose of 10 mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours for certain infections, with different maximum doses and durations depending on the infection. DailyMed

So I would need the child's weight and the doctor's prescribed frequency before converting this medicine into mL per dose.

Possible side effects

Common effects can include:

  • loose stools/diarrhea
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • abdominal discomfort
  • rash

Seek medical attention promptly for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face/lips, severe rash, or other signs of a serious allergic reaction. 1mg

Difference from the first medicine you showed

The first bottle was Cefpodoxime + Potassium Clavulanate.

This one is Cefpodoxime alone.

So they are not the same medicine, even though both contain cefpodoxime. They should not be substituted for one another based simply on the mL dose.

If you give me the child's age + weight + what illness the doctor prescribed it for + the dose written on the prescription, I can explain exactly how many mL, how often, how to prepare the 30-mL bottle, storage, and duration.
