1. Sucralfate — 1 g/10 mL

This is the main ulcer-protective component.

• In the acidic stomach environment, it forms a viscous, adhesive material that attaches preferentially to damaged/ulcerated mucosa.

• It creates a physical barrier against gastric acid, pepsin and bile salts.

• This allows injured tissue to heal while reducing further irritation. (Apollo Pharmacy)

Important: Sucralfate can interfere with absorption of several other medicines. It is commonly separated from other medicines by a few hours according to the prescribing instructions. (Apollo Pharmacy)

2. Oxetacaine — 20 mg/10 mL

Oxetacaine (also called oxethazaine) is a local anaesthetic.

• Produces local numbing of irritated gastrointestinal mucosa.

• Helps reduce burning, ulcer-associated pain and discomfort.

• It provides symptomatic pain relief; it does not itself heal the ulcer. (1mg)

What the combination does

Sucralfate → protects the damaged lining
Oxetacaine → numbs the painful/irritated area

So the formulation is intended to provide both mucosal protection and relatively rapid symptomatic relief in conditions such as peptic ulcer disease, gastritis/acid irritation and heartburn, when prescribed. (1mg)

Amount in the 100-mL bottle

At the labelled per-10-mL strength, a 100-mL bottle would contain, in total:

• Sucralfate: 10,000 mg (10 g)

• Oxetacaine: 200 mg

This is the theoretical total based on the labelled concentration, not an instruction to take the entire bottle.
