Alcuf-LS Junior Syrup
Brand: Alcuf-LS Junior
Form: Syrup
Quantity: 60 mL
Prescription medicine: The Rx symbol is visible.
Active ingredients named on the front:
Ambroxol hydrochloride
Levosalbutamol
Guaiphenesin
The manufacturer logo visible on the carton appears to be LAPL/Labelle (the small print is not sufficiently clear to be certain).
So this combination is principally intended for a cough associated with mucus/phlegm and airway narrowing or wheezing, rather than simply suppressing a dry cough.
The photograph appears to show numbers next to the ingredients, but the label is too blurred to confidently transcribe every strength. I can make out approximately 15 mg for ambroxol, but I would not rely on the photograph to determine the exact dose or concentration of all three ingredients.
This is particularly important because “Junior” does not mean the same dose is appropriate for every child. The appropriate amount depends on the child's age/weight and the exact formulation.
Because this contains levosalbutamol, some people can experience:
Shakiness/tremor
Fast heartbeat or palpitations
Nervousness/restlessness
Headache
Muscle cramps
Ambroxol/guaiphenesin can sometimes cause:
Nausea
Vomiting
Stomach discomfort
Diarrhea
Headache or dizziness
A significant allergic reaction, such as facial/lip swelling, difficulty breathing, or widespread rash, requires urgent medical attention.
Because this is an Rx medicine, it is better not to give it to a child simply based on the picture or on someone else's prescription. In particular, don't combine it with another cough/cold product without checking the ingredients, because there can be duplication.
Also, levosalbutamol isn't simply a general “cough medicine”—it is included because of its bronchodilator effect. If a child has significant breathing difficulty, rapid breathing, chest retractions, blue lips, or severe wheezing, a cough syrup should not be relied upon as the treatment.
If you send me a clear photo of the back/side of this box, I can read the exact composition per 5 mL, prescribed dosage, age restrictions, warnings, and storage instructions from this particular product.
