About ACCLEVO-M SYRUP

 Acclevo-M Syrup

What is visible on the package

  • Brand: Acclevo-M Syrup
  • Ingredients: Levocetirizine & Montelukast
  • Pack: 60 mL
  • Dosage form: Oral syrup
  • Type: The Rx symbol is visible, indicating it is a prescription medicine.
  • The packaging is designed for children, but the presence of children's artwork does not by itself establish the appropriate dose or age range.

What each medicine does

1. Levocetirizine

  • An antihistamine.
  • Reduces the effects of histamine, a chemical involved in allergic reactions.
  • Can help with:
    • Sneezing
    • Runny nose
    • Itchy nose/throat
    • Watery or itchy eyes
    • Allergy-related itching/hives

A common side effect is sleepiness or drowsiness, although not everyone experiences it.

2. Montelukast

  • A leukotriene receptor antagonist.
  • Leukotrienes contribute to airway inflammation and allergic symptoms.
  • It can be prescribed for conditions such as allergic rhinitis and as an additional treatment for asthma in appropriate patients.

Importantly, montelukast is not a rescue medicine for a sudden asthma attack. An acute asthma attack requires the person's prescribed quick-relief/rescue treatment.

Why doctors combine them

The two medicines work through different mechanisms:

Allergen → histamine + leukotrienes → allergy symptoms

  • Levocetirizine mainly blocks histamine's effects.
  • Montelukast blocks leukotriene receptors.

Therefore, the combination may be prescribed when a clinician wants to address multiple components of allergic/airway symptoms, particularly when allergic rhinitis is associated with respiratory symptoms.

Important precaution with montelukast

Montelukast has an important warning concerning neuropsychiatric effects. Some people have reported changes such as:

  • Nightmares or abnormal dreams
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Irritability
  • Agitation
  • Anxiety
  • Mood or behavior changes
  • Depression
  • Rarely, suicidal thoughts or behavior

If significant new mood, behavior, or sleep changes occur after starting montelukast, contact the prescribing clinician promptly. Any suicidal thoughts or immediate safety concern warrants urgent medical attention.

Possible side effects

Levocetirizine

  • Drowsiness
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Occasionally stomach/GI symptoms

Montelukast

  • Headache
  • Abdominal/stomach discomfort
  • Sleep disturbances or behavioral changes in some people

About the dose

The photograph does not clearly show the strength, such as how many mg of levocetirizine and montelukast are present in each 5 mL. That is important because the dose varies considerably with age and formulation.

So I would not recommend a number of mL based on this photograph alone.

If you upload a clear picture of the back/side of the Acclevo-M box, especially the section saying “Composition,” “Dosage,” “Directions for use,” or “Each 5 mL contains…”, I can decode the exact strength and explain what each 5 mL contains, the labeled age-specific dosing, timing, precautions, and how this medicine differs from the ACCORBATE-XT syrup in your previous image.
