Cefott-50 Dry Syrup, containing cefixime.
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works against susceptible bacterial infections; it does not treat viral illnesses such as ordinary viral colds or influenza. Approved uses include certain urinary-tract infections, middle-ear infections, and some throat/tonsil infections, depending on the organism and local prescribing guidance. DailyMed
The image appears to show “50 mg/5 mL” on the red label, but the small print is not sufficiently clear for me to guarantee the concentration from the photograph alone. Don't calculate a child's dose from the image alone. Cefixime suspensions are sold in different concentrations, and the same number of millilitres can represent very different doses. DailyMed
For example, official prescribing information lists pediatric cefixime suspension concentrations including 100 mg/5 mL and 200 mg/5 mL, and dosing is based on the child's weight. DailyMed
It is not ready-to-drink powder. The pharmacist/parent adds the specified amount of water to make a suspension.
After mixing:
For children 6 months and older, one official cefixime labeling reference gives a general recommended dose of 8 mg/kg/day, either once daily or divided into two doses of 4 mg/kg every 12 hours. However, the appropriate dose depends on the actual concentration of this particular product, child's weight, infection, kidney function, and physician's prescription. DailyMed
So I would not recommend giving a specific number of mL based solely on this photograph.
Common effects can include:
More importantly, seek urgent medical attention for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face/lips/tongue, widespread hives/rash, or severe/persistent diarrhea, because serious allergic reactions and antibiotic-associated diarrhea can occur. DailyMed
If you want, send me a clear close-up photograph of the front and back of the bottle/box, particularly the line showing “___ mg/5 mL” and the instructions for adding water. I can then explain exactly what this particular Cefott-50 preparation contains, how much drug is in each 1 mL/5 mL, how it is reconstituted, storage requirements, and how to interpret the doctor's prescribed dose.
