About T-WASH

ACCOTT T-Wash Mouthwash

The bottle shown is T-Wash, 100 mL, an antiseptic mouthwash containing chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% w/v. An available Accott product listing also identifies sodium fluoride and zinc chloride as additional ingredients. (Tradeindia)

The supplier listing specifically describes T-Wash as containing chlorhexidine gluconate, sodium fluoride and zinc chloride, with flavouring agents, purified water and colour. (Tradeindia)

1. Chlorhexidine gluconate — 0.2% w/v

This is the principal antiseptic ingredient.

  • 0.2% w/v = 2 mg/mL of chlorhexidine gluconate.

  • Therefore, 100 mL contains 200 mg chlorhexidine gluconate, assuming the labelled 0.2% applies to the finished product.

  • It has strong antibacterial activity and is used to reduce plaque-associated bacteria and gingival inflammation.

  • It is generally intended for short-term/therapeutic oral use, rather than indefinite everyday use.

Possible effects with prolonged use: tooth/tongue staining, altered taste sensation and increased calculus formation can occur with chlorhexidine mouthwashes.

2. Sodium fluoride

The product listing confirms its presence but does not give its concentration. (Tradeindia)

Its purpose is different from chlorhexidine:

  • supports tooth enamel mineralisation;

  • helps make teeth more resistant to acid attack;

  • contributes to caries prevention.

I would not assume a particular fluoride concentration without the back-label “each 100 mL contains…” statement.

3. Zinc chloride

The listing identifies zinc chloride, but again the exact concentration isn't provided. (Tradeindia)

In an oral-care formulation, zinc can contribute to:

  • reduction of oral malodour compounds;

  • oral hygiene/plaque-control support.

4. Flavouring agents

Added mainly to make the mouthwash more pleasant and provide the fresh-mouth sensation indicated on the label.

5. Purified water

The main liquid vehicle in which the active and inactive ingredients are dissolved/dispersed.

6. Colour

Responsible for the blue appearance. The exact colouring agent cannot be established from the photograph.

What this mouthwash is mainly for

The product listing gives indications including halitosis (bad breath), gingivitis and routine oral hygiene, and describes it as an anti-plaque/antibacterial mouthwash. (Tradeindia)

Important: Because this contains 0.2% chlorhexidine, I would not treat it like an ordinary cosmetic breath-freshening mouthwash. Follow the prescribed/labelled duration and do not swallow it.

If you upload a clear picture of the back label, I can extract the complete composition, including the exact sodium fluoride and zinc chloride quantities, preservatives, sweeteners and flavouring agents. 
