ACCTRON-4
Brand: ACCTRON-4
Active ingredient: Ondansetron
Strength: 4 mg
Dosage form: Orally Disintegrating Tablets (ODT)
Pack: 10 × 10 tablets
Rx: Prescription medicine
Ondansetron is an antiemetic, meaning it helps prevent and control nausea and vomiting.
It is commonly prescribed for nausea/vomiting associated with:
Stomach or gastrointestinal illnesses
Certain medicines
Surgery/anesthesia
Chemotherapy or radiotherapy
Other conditions where a doctor wants to control significant vomiting
It works mainly by blocking 5-HT3 (serotonin) receptors, which are involved in triggering the vomiting reflex.
Because this is an orally disintegrating tablet, it is designed to dissolve rapidly in the mouth.
Generally:
Remove the tablet carefully from the blister—don't crush it through the foil if the packaging instructs you to peel it.
Place it on your tongue.
Allow it to dissolve.
Swallow the dissolved medication.
You normally don't need to swallow it with a full glass of water.
Follow the dose and frequency prescribed by your doctor.
Possible side effects include:
Headache
Constipation
Dizziness
Fatigue
Sometimes a feeling of warmth/flushing
Ondansetron can, in some people, affect the heart's electrical rhythm by prolonging the QT interval. This is more important if someone has:
A known abnormal heart rhythm
Certain heart conditions
Low potassium or magnesium
Significant liver disease
Other medicines that can prolong the QT interval
Seek urgent medical attention for fainting, severe palpitations, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face/throat.
ACCTRON-4 is different from the others:
AMLOCOT-AT → blood-pressure/heart-rate medicine
Azithromycin 250/500 mg → antibiotic
ACECLOTT-P / TH / MR / SP → pain/inflammation medicines
A-COLD → cold-symptom combination
ACCVIT-CZ → vitamin C + D3 + zinc
ACCTRON-4 → anti-nausea/anti-vomiting medicine
One thing to be particularly careful about is that azithromycin and ondansetron can both affect the QT interval in susceptible people. If your doctor prescribed them together, follow the prescription, but tell the doctor/pharmacist if you have a history of abnormal heart rhythm, fainting, or electrolyte abnormalities.
Also, ondansetron treats nausea/vomiting; it doesn't treat the underlying infection or stomach problem causing those symptoms.
