The package states “Ursodeoxycholic Acid Tablet IP.” “IP” refers to the Indian Pharmacopoeia standard.
Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is a bile acid medicine that is commonly prescribed for certain liver and gallbladder/bile-duct conditions. Depending on the condition, doctors may use it for:
Certain types of gallstones, particularly cholesterol gallstones when appropriate
Cholestatic liver diseases where bile flow is impaired
Some chronic liver/biliary disorders
Its exact benefit and dose depend heavily on why it has been prescribed and the person's body weight and liver condition.
UDCA changes the composition of bile and makes it less damaging to liver cells and bile ducts. It can also improve bile flow and, in selected patients, gradually help dissolve cholesterol-containing gallstones.
UDN-300 means 300 mg of ursodeoxycholic acid per tablet. It does not mean that everyone should take one tablet once daily. UDCA dosing varies substantially depending on the disease being treated, and some regimens require divided doses.
The more common effects include:
Diarrhea or loose stools
Abdominal discomfort
Nausea
Indigestion
Less commonly, other problems can occur, so persistent or severe abdominal pain, jaundice, vomiting, or significant diarrhea should be discussed with a doctor.
The photograph can establish what the package appears to say, but it cannot establish whether this particular medicine is appropriate for you or what dose you should take. Don't start, stop, or change the dose based solely on the package.
If you tell me why UDN-300 was prescribed (for example, gallstones, fatty liver, high bilirubin, or a liver test abnormality) and the patient's age/weight, I can explain exactly why it is being used, how it is normally taken, how long treatment may last, and what precautions/interactions matter.
