Otricot Dusting Powder
Brand/company shown: Accott
Product: Otricot Dusting Powder
Active ingredient: Clotrimazole IP 1.0% w/w
Dosage form: Dusting powder for external/topical use
Pack size: 100 gm
Clotrimazole is an antifungal medicine used on the skin to treat fungal infections.
The central label reads:
Clotrimazole
IP 1.0% w/w
Dusting Powder
Then, in large red lettering:
Otricot
Dusting Powder
So the important medicinal information is that the powder contains 1% w/w clotrimazole.
The front has four small icons with labels:
Itching
Fungal Infection
Skin Infection
Prickly Heat
The inclusion of these graphics indicates the situations the manufacturer is associating with the product. However, clotrimazole specifically treats fungal infections; it isn't a general treatment for every cause of itching, skin irritation, or prickly heat.
The bottle has:
A large red screw/flip-style cap
White plastic body
White label with black and red text
Red branding around the lower section
A blue water-splash graphic
Yellow/colored illustrations representing the conditions mentioned above
The container appears to be designed as a shaker/dusting-powder bottle, allowing the powder to be applied directly to the skin.
Clotrimazole is an azole antifungal. It interferes with the production of ergosterol, an important component of fungal cell membranes. This damages the fungal cells and helps control the infection.
It is commonly used for superficial fungal infections such as:
Ringworm (tinea)
Athlete's foot
Jock itch
Some forms of cutaneous candidiasis
The package shows prickly heat, but that doesn't mean clotrimazole is the appropriate treatment for ordinary heat rash.
If the problem is simply sweating/heat rash without a fungal infection, an antifungal such as clotrimazole may not be necessary. A powder can also sometimes make irritated skin worse if it is heavily applied or if the skin is already inflamed.
Because this is a medicated topical powder:
It is intended for external use.
Avoid getting it into the eyes, mouth, or other sensitive areas.
Don't apply it to severely damaged/open skin unless instructed by a clinician.
Keep the affected area clean and dry.
Stop and seek medical advice if there is significant irritation, swelling, or an allergic reaction.
If the rash isn't improving or the diagnosis is uncertain, medical evaluation is preferable rather than repeatedly treating it as a fungal infection.
One important point: the photograph shows the front of the bottle only. It doesn't show the complete directions, frequency of application, warnings, expiry date, or inactive ingredients. Those should be taken from the rear/side label or package insert rather than guessed.
