The front of the box does not make the vitamin-D strength/IU clearly readable in this photograph, so I would not assume the dose from the picture alone. Cholecalciferol injections in India are available in different strengths, including high-dose preparations such as 600,000 IU per 1 mL, so the exact IU should be confirmed from the ampoule label or the side/back of the box. Cholecalciferol is vitamin D3. It helps the body maintain calcium and phosphate balance and supports bone and muscle health. It is used for vitamin-D deficiency and conditions such as vitamin-D-deficiency osteomalacia/rickets and, in appropriate patients, as part of management of osteoporosis. An IM preparation can be used when a clinician wants a relatively large dose of vitamin D or when oral treatment is unsuitable, for example because of malabsorption or difficulty adhering to oral therapy. PubMed Central (PMC)
It is not an antibiotic. So, unlike the two injections you showed previously:
Vitamin D is fat-soluble, so excessive dosing can accumulate and cause vitamin-D toxicity and high blood calcium (hypercalcaemia). The Indian National Formulary specifically lists hypercalcaemia/vitamin-D toxicity as contraindications and recommends attention to calcium levels, particularly in people with kidney problems or a history of kidney stones. If someone is already taking 60,000 IU vitamin D weekly, another vitamin-D supplement, calcium + vitamin D tablets, or another vitamin-D injection, the total vitamin-D exposure should be reviewed by the prescribing clinician before this injection is given.
High-dose IM vitamin D can be effective, but studies have also documented elevated vitamin-D levels and the potential for hypercalcaemia/hypercalciuria after large doses. PubMed
