About ALBECOT-IV SUS

ALBECOT-IV SUS

The image shows a prescription deworming medicine:

What is visible on the package

  • Brand: ALBECOT-IV Suspension

  • Contents: 10 mL

  • Active ingredients: Albendazole + Ivermectin

  • Form: Oral suspension (liquid)

  • The packaging specifically states “Rx”, meaning it is a prescription medicine.

  • The illustration of a worm indicates that it is intended for treatment of parasitic worm infections.

What the two medicines do

Albendazole

  • An antiparasitic drug that kills or inhibits several intestinal worms.

  • Commonly used for infections such as roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and pinworm, among others.

Ivermectin

  • Another antiparasitic drug.

  • It is active against certain worms and other parasites, but it is not interchangeable with albendazole for every type of infection.

The combination can therefore be prescribed when a clinician wants coverage against particular parasitic infections.

Important point about the dose

Although the bottle says 10 mL, that is the bottle volume, not the dose to take.

The photograph does not show the strength clearly enough to safely determine how many mL should be taken. Combination products can have different amounts of albendazole and ivermectin per mL, and ivermectin dosing is particularly dependent on body weight, age, and the infection being treated.

So I would not recommend taking the entire 10 mL or using a standard “deworming dose” based only on this photograph.

Precautions

Because this contains ivermectin as well as albendazole:

  • Don't give it to a child solely based on the worm picture or the product name.

  • Avoid self-dosing in pregnancy, particularly without medical advice.

  • Tell the doctor/pharmacist about other medicines being taken.

  • Possible adverse effects include nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, and occasionally other reactions.

  • Seek medical attention for severe dizziness, confusion, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or a serious rash.

If you want, I can also read the composition/strength from the bottle and explain exactly what each ingredient and the prescribed dose means if you upload a clear close-up of the right-hand side of the label (where the quantities are printed).
