1. Levofloxacin — 500 mg

Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibacterial antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes bacteria need to replicate and repair their DNA. (DailyMed)

It may be prescribed for susceptible bacterial infections such as:

• Respiratory infections/pneumonia

• Certain urinary-tract infections

• Some sinus infections

• Certain skin/soft-tissue infections

It does not treat viral infections such as common cold or influenza. (1mg)

Important safety

Levofloxacin is a prescription antibiotic with significant potential adverse effects. Fluoroquinolones can rarely cause serious problems involving tendons, nerves, muscles/joints and the nervous system. Tendon pain or swelling, numbness/tingling, severe weakness, or unusual neurological symptoms should be reported promptly to a doctor.

Also, medicines/supplements containing iron, zinc, calcium or magnesium and antacids can reduce levofloxacin absorption; they generally need to be separated from levofloxacin according to the prescribing instructions.
