PRED COT-8 Tablets, containing Methylprednisolone 8 mg. It is a prescription corticosteroid (glucocorticoid).
Active ingredient:
Methylprednisolone IP — 8 mg
This is the active medicinal ingredient. Standard 8-mg methylprednisolone tablet formulations contain 8 mg methylprednisolone per tablet, with inactive ingredients added as required. (Pfizer Labeling)
The photograph does not provide a sufficiently readable manufacturer-specific excipient list, so I would not claim that particular ingredients are present in PRED COT-8. Different methylprednisolone manufacturers use different excipients. For example, documented 8-mg formulations may contain lactose, sucrose, corn starch and calcium stearate, while other formulations use different excipients. (Pfizer Labeling)
Methylprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid. It reduces inflammation and suppresses excessive immune-system activity. (DailyMed)
It may be prescribed for conditions involving significant inflammation or abnormal immune responses, including certain:
Allergic/inflammatory disorders
Skin diseases
Joint and rheumatic disorders
Respiratory inflammatory conditions
Autoimmune diseases
Certain blood and other systemic disorders
The appropriate dose and duration vary considerably depending on the condition.
Because PRED COT-8 is a steroid, it should be taken exactly as prescribed.
Potential effects, particularly with higher doses or longer courses, include:
Increased blood glucose
Increased blood pressure/fluid retention
Increased susceptibility to infections
Stomach irritation
Mood or sleep changes
Increased appetite
Weight gain
With prolonged use: osteoporosis, cataracts/glaucoma, adrenal suppression and other steroid-related effects
Do not abruptly stop methylprednisolone after prolonged or high-dose treatment unless your doctor tells you to; the dose may need to be reduced gradually.
PRED COT-8 = Methylprednisolone IP 8 mg per tablet + pharmaceutical excipients q.s.
It is a potent anti-inflammatory/immunosuppressive corticosteroid, not an antibiotic or ordinary painkiller. (Pfizer Labeling)
