Dr. Panta-DSR

Pantoprazole + Domperidone prolonged-release capsules

Prescription medicine

Brand shown: Dr. Panta-DSR, ACCOTT

The medicine in your photograph is Dr. Panta-DSR, a combination medicine commonly prescribed for acid reflux and related digestive symptoms.

1. What does it contain?

It contains two active ingredients:

  • Pantoprazole: Reduces the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).

  • Domperidone: Helps the stomach move food into the intestine and can reduce nausea and vomiting. It is a medicine called a prokinetic.

The box says gastro-resistant and prolonged release. These formulations help protect pantoprazole from stomach acid and control how domperidone is released.

The exact strength of each ingredient is not clearly visible in the photograph. A common DSR combination contains pantoprazole 40 mg and domperidone 30 mg, but you should check the printed composition on your own pack.

2. What is it used for?

Doctors may prescribe this combination for:

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), in which stomach acid flows back into the food pipe.

  • Heartburn and sour-tasting acid regurgitation.

  • Reflux accompanied by nausea or a feeling of fullness.

Pantoprazole may also be prescribed separately for certain stomach ulcers and other acid-related conditions. The combination is not necessarily appropriate for every kind of acidity, bloating or indigestion.

3. How to take it

If prescribed, this type of capsule is generally taken before a meal, often before breakfast. Swallow it whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Follow the dose and duration on your prescription rather than assuming it should be taken every day.

Pantoprazole may take several days to provide its full acid-suppressing effect. Domperidone usually acts more quickly, often within 30–60 minutes.

Important safety warning

Domperidone can occasionally cause dangerous disturbances of the heart's electrical rhythm. The risk is higher in people over 60, at higher doses and with certain other medicines. Seek urgent medical attention if you experience palpitations accompanied by dizziness, fainting or difficulty breathing.

5. Who should take extra precautions?

Speak with your doctor before taking this medicine if you have a heart rhythm disorder, heart failure, liver disease or significant kidney problems, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Certain antibiotics, antifungal medicines and medicines that affect heart rhythm may interact with domperidone. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you take.

6. How long should it be used?

Pantoprazole alone can be prescribed for several weeks or longer, depending on the diagnosis. However, the domperidone component requires particular caution.

The European Medicines Agency recommends restricting domperidone to nausea and vomiting, generally for no longer than one week, because of its cardiac risks and insufficient evidence of benefit for reflux or bloating. Regulations and approved uses may differ by country.

If your doctor has prescribed Dr. Panta-DSR for longer, confirm the intended duration and whether both ingredients are necessary.

The photograph shows a carton and a silver blister strip containing ten capsule compartments. The capsules themselves are not visible, so their colour and markings cannot be confirmed.

Seek medical assessment if you have difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, vomiting blood or black, tar-like stools. These symptoms should not simply be treated as acidity.
