Cefott-200 Tablets by Accott Healthcare. The box clearly identifies it as “Cefixime Dispersible Tablets IP”.
I also checked the product information: Cefott-200 contains cefixime 200 mg per tablet, in the form of cefixime trihydrate equivalent to cefixime. (Tradeindia)
The package contains 10 × 10 tablets = 100 tablets. (Tradeindia)
Cefixime is a β-lactam antibiotic belonging to the third-generation cephalosporin group.
It works by interfering with bacterial cell-wall synthesis. Susceptible bacteria cannot maintain their cell wall and are consequently killed.
It is therefore used for certain bacterial infections, not viral infections.
Depending on the organism and local antibiotic-resistance patterns, cefixime may be used for susceptible:
Urinary-tract infections (UTIs)
Throat/tonsil infections
Ear infections
Some respiratory bacterial infections
Certain gastrointestinal infections
Typhoid/enteric fever, when clinically appropriate and guided by local resistance considerations
The Accott product information specifically lists respiratory and urinary infections and other susceptible bacterial infections among its indications. (Tradeindia)
What does “dispersible tablet” mean?Cefott-200 is a dispersible tablet, rather than simply an ordinary swallowable tablet.
A dispersible tablet is designed to break up/disperse in water before administration. Follow the instructions supplied with the particular product; don't assume that every dispersible tablet should be swallowed whole.
This formulation can be particularly useful when swallowing conventional tablets is difficult.
How cefixime worksBacteria need a strong peptidoglycan cell wall to survive.
Cefixime binds to bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and interferes with the cross-linking required to construct the cell wall.
In simplified terms:
Cefixime → interferes with bacterial cell-wall synthesis → weakened cell wall → bacterial death
Human cells don't have this type of cell wall, which is why the antibiotic can selectively target bacteria.
Common side effectsCefixime is generally tolerated reasonably well, but possible adverse effects include:
Diarrhea
Nausea
Vomiting
Abdominal discomfort
Indigestion
Headache
Dizziness
Skin rash
Diarrhea is particularly relevant with antibiotics because alteration of normal intestinal bacteria can occur.
Difficulty breathing
Swelling of the face/lips/tongue
Severe rash or blistering
Severe or persistent diarrhea
Blood or mucus in stools
Severe abdominal pain
These can indicate a significant allergic reaction or antibiotic-associated intestinal inflammation.
Important precautionsTell your doctor if you have previously had a serious allergic reaction to:
Cefixime
Other cephalosporins
Penicillin or related β-lactam antibiotics
A history of severe immediate allergy is particularly important.
Cefixime is substantially eliminated through the kidneys. People with impaired kidney function may require dose adjustment.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding before taking it.
If significant or persistent diarrhea occurs during treatment or even after finishing the antibiotic, contact your doctor rather than simply treating it yourself with an antidiarrheal.
Cefott-200 vs Cefott-OYou previously showed another medicine called Cefott-O. These two are not the same.
Cefixime 200 mg
→ One antibiotic
Cefixime 200 mg + Ofloxacin 200 mg
→ Two antibiotics
The manufacturer's product information lists Cefott-O as the cefixime + ofloxacin combination. (Tradeindia)
So Cefott-200 should not automatically be substituted for Cefott-O, or vice versa.
Cefott-200 vs ChymocottYou also showed Chymocott earlier.
These medicines have completely different purposes:
Therefore, if a doctor has prescribed Cefott-200 + Chymocott, the medicines are addressing different aspects of the illness: Cefott-200 treats the susceptible bacterial infection, while Chymocott is intended for associated pain/inflammation.
Cefott-200 is a prescription antibiotic. It should not be taken simply because there is fever, cough, sore throat, or body pain—many of these illnesses are viral and won't benefit from cefixime. Unnecessary antibiotic use contributes to antibiotic resistance.
Also, don't take Cefott-200 and Cefott-O together unless a doctor specifically instructed you to do so, because Cefott-O already contains cefixime.
If you show me the back side of the Cefott-200 strip, I can also explain the exact excipients, manufacturing details, storage instructions, expiry information, and the instructions printed on the strip.
