The photograph clearly shows Febuco-40 (Accott) and, importantly, the composition printed on the blister confirms the exact formulation.
The blister specifically states: “Each film-coated tablet contains: Febuxostat 40 mg; Excipients q.s.; Colour: Titanium Dioxide.” (Pharmacy Products Kenya)
Drug class: Xanthine oxidase inhibitor.
It inhibits xanthine oxidase, the enzyme responsible for converting hypoxanthine and xanthine into uric acid.
This reduces production of uric acid and therefore lowers serum urate levels.
It is used for long-term management of hyperuricemia associated with gout, rather than as a painkiller for an acute gout attack. (Pharmacy Products Kenya)
Important: Febuxostat is generally used continuously to maintain uric acid at the target level. Starting urate-lowering treatment can sometimes precipitate a gout flare initially, so doctors may prescribe additional flare prophylaxis.
q.s. = quantum satis, meaning “quantity sufficient” to make the finished tablet.
The exact individual excipients and their amounts are not listed on the visible blister. Therefore, I would not assume ingredients such as lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, starch or magnesium stearate for this specific Accott product. Different manufacturers use different excipient systems. For example, other febuxostat 40-mg products can contain microcrystalline cellulose, lactose, croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropyl cellulose, silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate. (DailyMed)
Titanium dioxide is listed on your blister as the colour/opacifying agent. It is used in the film coating to give the tablet its white/opaque appearance.
Febuco-40 → Febuxostat 40 mg → inhibits xanthine oxidase → ↓ uric-acid production → ↓ serum uric acid → helps prevent urate crystal deposition and recurrent gout complications.
It is a prescription urate-lowering medicine, not a conventional painkiller.
It should be taken at the dose and duration prescribed.
Do not start, stop or change the dose solely based on the current uric-acid reading without medical advice.
Febuxostat has important cardiovascular safety considerations in some patients, particularly those with established cardiovascular disease.
It can interact significantly with medicines such as azathioprine and mercaptopurine.
Liver-function monitoring may be appropriate during treatment.
FEBUCO-40 = Febuxostat 40 mg per film-coated tablet + excipients q.s. + Titanium Dioxide as colour. (Pharmacy Products Kenya)
