PRED COT-4 Tablets, labelled Methylprednisolone Tablets IP.
So the key composition is:
Methylprednisolone 4 mg per tablet.
The “4” in PRED COT-4 indicates the 4-mg strength. Methylprednisolone is a glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects.
It reduces excessive inflammation and immune activity by altering the expression of inflammatory mediators. It can therefore be prescribed for conditions such as:
Severe allergic/inflammatory reactions
Skin inflammation
Joint and rheumatic disorders
Autoimmune diseases
Certain respiratory inflammatory conditions
Other conditions requiring corticosteroid therapy
You previously showed PRED COT-8. The two products contain the same active drug, but different strengths:
Thus, one PRED COT-8 tablet contains twice the methylprednisolone of one PRED COT-4 tablet.
The photograph does not show a sufficiently readable ingredient panel to establish the manufacturer-specific inactive ingredients in PRED COT-4. These can vary between formulations, so I would not assume a particular list.
Methylprednisolone is a prescription steroid, not an ordinary painkiller. Even at 4 mg, precautions depend on the dose and duration of treatment.
Possible effects include:
Increased blood sugar
Increased blood pressure/fluid retention
Increased appetite
Mood or sleep changes
Stomach irritation
Increased susceptibility to infections
With longer courses or higher doses, risks include adrenal suppression, osteoporosis, cataracts/glaucoma and other steroid-related complications.
Do not abruptly discontinue a prolonged steroid course without medical advice; some courses need gradual dose reduction.
Bottom line:
PRED COT-4 = Methylprednisolone IP 4 mg/tablet + excipients q.s. (diariooficial.santos.sp.gov.br)
